How to Use Your Worry Journal
Worries tend to feel bigger and louder when they only live in your head. This journal gives them somewhere else to be. The plan has three moves: write it down, sort it, park it. Each entry takes about ten minutes, and you can do one whenever a worry has hold of you.
This is not therapy and it will not make worries go away. It is a way to look at them on paper, decide what (if anything) to do, and set the rest down for now.
The three moves
- Write it. Put the worry in plain words, one or two sentences. Rate how strong it feels, 0 to 10.
- Sort it. Ask: is this something I can do something about today, part of something I can act on, or something I cannot do anything about right now? The sorting guide that follows gives you questions to help.
- Park it. Choose a time to set the worry down until. Write what you will say to yourself if it comes back before then.
