How to Use Your 5-Minute Evening Journal

Welcome. This journal asks for three lines a night, and the lines can be short. Five minutes is the whole plan. There is no streak to protect and no wrong way to fill a page.

The three lines

Every night has the same three lines, so you never have to decide what to write:

  1. Today, in one line. What happened, or what the day felt like. "Long day, good lunch" counts.
  2. One thing I handled or enjoyed. Something small that went fine, or that you liked. A task finished, a song, a hot shower.
  3. One thing for tomorrow. One thing to do, to look forward to, or to let go of. Just one.

A filled-in week

Here is what one week can look like. Notice how short the lines are. Nobody needs to read these but you.

Night 1 (Sunday)

  1. Today, in one line: Slow morning, then groceries and laundry.
  2. One thing I handled or enjoyed: Finally cleaned out the fridge.
  3. For tomorrow: Leave ten minutes early so I am not rushing.
