How to Use Your Grief Journal
If you are holding this, someone or something important to you is gone. I am sorry. This journal is a quiet place to put some of it down. It asks for very little and expects nothing.
There are no stages to move through, no timeline and no right way to grieve. Grief can be sadness, anger, numbness, relief, guilt, laughter, or all of those in one afternoon. Whatever shows up is allowed here.
How to use this journal
- Open it when you want to, not on a schedule. Some people write every day. Others write once a week, or only on hard days.
- Use the prompts or ignore them. Each is an invitation, not an assignment. Skip any that feel too much.
- Write as little as you like. A word counts. So does a list. So does "I can't today."
- Stop whenever you need to. If a prompt is too painful, close the book. You can come back, or never.
- Keep it private, or share a page with someone you trust. You decide.
- You can write to the person. Many people find it easier to write "you" than "he" or "she."
