Part 1: Start here

This is an 8-week plan of gentle balance and leg-strength exercises, written to you, the adult child, so that you can offer it to a parent in a way that suits them. It moves in three levels, from seated, to supported standing, to standing near a counter, with 24 exercises, a weekly schedule, a progress checklist, a "when to pause" page, a week-9 review and a guide for a visit with a physical therapist.

What this plan is, and what it is not

It is a general, cautious routine and a way to record progress. It is not medical advice, not physical therapy and not a treatment. It cannot promise that anyone will avoid a fall, get stronger by a set amount or reach a particular goal. People start from different places and move at different speeds, and that is fine.

The plan does not diagnose anything and does not replace a visit with a doctor or a licensed physical therapist. A therapist who has met your parent will always know more about what suits them than this page does.

What is in each part

  1. Start here
  2. Level 1, seated exercises (1 to 8)
  3. Level 2, supported exercises (9 to 16)
  4. Level 3, standing near support (17 to 24)
  5. Weekly plan, progress checklist and when to pause
  6. Preparing for a physical therapist visit

What's inside

  • 24 exercises in three levels: seated, supported, standing
  • Week-by-week plan with a progress checklist
  • Stop-if and when-to-pause rules, plus a week-9 review
  • Question guide for a physical therapist visit

Who it's for

For an adult child who wants to offer a parent a gradual, clinician-reviewable balance routine, with respect for the parent's choices and pace. An expert review by a physiotherapist or qualified trainer is planned; until then it is general information, not professional advice.
