Part 1: Start here
This guide gives you one calm roadmap for the first 12 weeks with your puppy at home. Each week has a short lesson, a Focus list, a Skip for now list and a Watch for list. Every few weeks there is a checkpoint so you can see how far you have come.
What this does
- Tells you what to focus on each week, so you are not trying to teach everything at once.
- Shows what can safely wait, which is usually most of what you read online at 2 a.m.
- Tells you when to bring a question to your vet or a trainer.
- Uses reward-based training only: treats, praise, play and patience.
What this does not do
It is not veterinary advice or a substitute for a qualified trainer. Anything about vaccines, deworming, feeding amounts or health is general information with typical ranges, and each is marked Ask your vet. It does not promise a house-trained or perfectly behaved dog in 12 weeks. Puppies vary a lot, and so do homes. Some weeks will go better than others.
What is in each part
- Start here
- Weeks 1 to 3, settling in
- Weeks 4 to 6, building habits
- Weeks 7 to 9, more skills, more world
- Weeks 10 to 12, steady and confident
- Glossary and troubleshooting
What's inside
- 12 weekly lessons with focus, skip and watch-for lists
- Four printable checkpoints to track progress
- A glossary of common puppy terms
- Troubleshooting for accidents, crying, biting and fear
Who it's for
A first-time owner who wants one calm roadmap for weeks 1 to 12, using reward-based training and knowing when to ask the vet or a trainer. An expert review by a vet and a qualified dog trainer is planned; until then it is general information, not professional advice.
