Part 1: Start here, and Lesson 1: Gather

Welcome to Run the Visit. This is a text course in six short lessons for the appointment you have coming up. It walks you through the three stages of a health visit: before, during and after. You can finish it in a weekend, or one lesson a day over the week before your visit.

What this course does and does not do

It does:

  • Help you gather what you already know about your own experience, health history and medicines.
  • Help you turn it into a one-page summary you can hand over or read aloud.
  • Give you a way to choose your top questions, including questions about tests, medicines and hormone therapy, so you can ask them in your own words.
  • Give you wording for the room, including what to say when time is short.
  • Give you a plan for after the visit, a section on what to do if you feel dismissed, and a short guide to second opinions.
  • Include worked examples with invented people, and a two-page cheat sheet.

What is in each part

  1. Start here, and Lesson 1: Gather
  2. Lesson 2: Summarize
  3. Lesson 3: Prioritize your questions
  4. Lesson 4: In the room
  5. Lesson 5: After the visit
  6. Lesson 6: Second opinion basics and cheat sheet
