Part 1: Start here and the binder blueprint
If you are helping an aging parent, you probably hold more information in your head than you realize. Which pharmacy. Which cardiologist. Which of three insurance cards to use. What Dad said last spring about the house. This course helps you move all of it out of your head and into one binder, so you, your siblings and anyone who steps in can find what they need.
What this course does and does not do
It does: walk you through building a 12-section care binder, one part at a time, with worksheets you can copy by hand or print, short examples, and questions to ask professionals.
It does not: give medical, legal, financial or insurance advice. It will help you find and record information, and prepare good questions. Rules on powers of attorney, health care directives, Medicaid and similar topics differ by state and change over time. For those, talk with an elder-law attorney, your parent's doctors, or a local aging services office (eldercare.acl.gov will point you to yours). For Medicare questions, medicare.gov is the official source.
